Today was the second day of the teacher training workshops. The day began with us discovering stories in the local papers (the Island Sun and the Solomon Star) about the human rights teacher training programme. The articles talked about the workshops, the aim of the Article 1 project, and the opening ceremony yesterday.

In the first workshop yesterday, the teachers covered lessons on the concept and history of human rights. This included discussion of what is meant by ‘human rights’, and how teachers might facilitate their students in thinking for themselves about what the term means to them and grasping the concept of universal human rights. The history of human rights was discussed.
